GIS for Utilities Management Training Course
Duration: 5 Days
Location: Nairobi
Course Overview
Utility service providers face increasing pressure to expand access, reduce losses, and optimize infrastructure while maintaining service quality. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have become essential in managing utility networks—providing accurate geospatial data for planning, operations, maintenance, and customer service.
This course equips participants with specialized GIS skills for managing water distribution systems, electrical grids, and telecommunications networks. It covers how GIS enables real-time asset tracking, outage management, infrastructure planning, and service coverage analysis. Participants will learn to create, edit, and analyze spatial data, build smart utility maps, and apply geospatial tools to enhance operational efficiency and customer engagement.
Hands-on exercises using industry-relevant software (such as QGIS, ArcGIS, or utility-focused extensions) will simulate real-world utility management challenges, including leak detection, network routing, demand forecasting, and infrastructure lifecycle monitoring.
