Training Course on Animal Health Management and Disease Surveillance
Duration: 5 Days
Location: Nairobi
Course Overview
Animal health is a cornerstone of sustainable livestock production, public health, food safety, and economic development. Disease outbreaks in livestock not only cause significant economic losses but also threaten human health through zoonoses and undermine food security. Effective animal health management—combined with timely disease surveillance and response systems—is critical for minimizing risks and ensuring resilient livestock systems.
This course provides a comprehensive framework for animal health planning, preventive care, and surveillance systems at the farm, community, and national levels. Participants will explore principles of veterinary public health, biosecurity, epidemiology, outbreak management, and One Health approaches. It also emphasizes early warning systems, mobile-based reporting, and the role of policy and regulation in building robust animal health services.
Through practical case studies and scenario-based learning, the course prepares participants to develop disease surveillance plans, design animal health campaigns, and manage routine and emergency animal health interventions.
